Mole removal

Every person has several moles. Most of these are benign. Depending on genes and excessive sun exposure/sunburn during childhood and adolescence, some of these may undergo cell changes and develop into malignant moles. If a mole has changed, causing symptoms such as itching and sores, it must be examined by a doctor as soon as possible.

Treatment for moles

Moles that are deemed necessary to remove are removed with a generous margin so that the entire mole is removed. Moles must be removed correctly.

Once pathologists have examined the specimen under a microscope, they will assess whether further surgery is necessary to remove more tissue.
If you have already had a mole removed that turns out to be melanoma (malignant melanoma), additional tissue around the area where the mole was located (the extended area) will be removed. How much tissue is removed is determined by the initial results of the microscopic examination. This is done to ensure that we have removed a sufficient margin around the cancerous tumor to reduce the risk of recurrence.
