When the weight creeps back on – help is available
Have you previously undergone gastric bypass surgery, but find that your weight has started to increase again? Perhaps you feel less full than before, or have developed symptoms such as dumping syndrome or unstable blood sugar levels?
These are common problems several years after surgery, and are often caused by the connection between the stomach and small intestine expanding over time.
A revision after gastric bypass ( Trans Oral Reduction – TORe) can help you restore the effect of the original procedure. Kalbakkenklinikken welcomes you for more information and a friendly chat.
PRICE FROM 66,000
Endoscopic revision of gastric bypass restores an enlarged stomach to its original size, or smaller.
Gastric Bypass
A standard gastric bypass procedure in which the stomach is connected to the small intestine to limit food intake and calorie absorption.
Enlarged Stomach
Over time, the stomach can gradually expand, reducing the feeling of fullness and making it easier to eat larger amounts again.
Revised Stomach
Endoscopic revision restores the size of the stomach by tightening it—often to the same or smaller volume than after the original procedure.
Who is this treatment suitable for?
This procedure is suitable for you if:
- Had gastric bypass surgery over 2 years ago
- Have regained weight, even with dietary changes
- Struggling with dumping symptoms such as nausea, sweating, and unstable blood sugar
- Have lost the feeling of fullness and control
What can you expect after the procedure?
- Better feeling of fullness
- Reduced food intake
- 10–15% weight loss on average after revision
- Reduction in dumping and discomfort
Short recovery time with endoscopic method (2–5 days)
The procedure gives you a new tool to succeed in the future – combined with dietary guidance and follow-up from our team.
Endoscopic revision (TORe)
-
The patient is given sedation or light anesthesia.
The procedure is performed through the mouth – without any surgical incisions. -
The endoscope is inserted into the stomach.
The doctor examines the anatomy and identifies where the stomach has expanded and where the anastomosis has become too large. -
Treatment with argon plasma coagulation (APC).
A controlled heating system is used on the tissue around the anastomosis. This allows the sutures to adhere better and reduces the risk of slippage. -
Suturing of the anastomosis.
Using an endoscopic suturing system (such as OverStitch™), stitches are placed around the opening between the stomach and small intestine. The opening is usually tightened from 20–30 mm down to approximately 10 mm in diameter. -
Suturing of the stomach (pouch).
If the stomach itself is enlarged, sutures can also be inserted here to reduce the volume and restore a "sleeve-like" structure. -
Conclusion and awakening.
The entire procedure takes approximately 30–60 minutes. The patient wakes up shortly afterwards and can go home the same day.
